Step-by-Step with Patterns

8 steps from print to ready. No special tools required.

Print patterns

Print at 100% scale. Check 1-inch bar with ruler.

Trace to cereal box

Use pen. Press hard. One cereal box = both sleeves.

Cut with scissors

Follow orange dashed lines. Cut camera window last.

Fold wedge

Fold along cyan lines. Creates 20° angle for rear view.

Tape mirror to base

Craft mirror center. Duct tape edges. No glass fragments.

Tape wedge under mirror

Wedge goes under top edge. Sets 20° rear angle.

Create phone sleeve

Fold pocket. Tape side tabs. Verify camera window clears lens.

Thread hair ties

Through anchor slots. Double-loop for security. Test stretch.

Bilateral Assembly

Left arm = mirror. Right arm = phone. Mirror image setup.

LEFT ARM: Mirror Build

→ Mount on forearm, 2" above wrist
→ Angle toward rear with wedge
→ Test: should see behind when palm up

RIGHT ARM: Phone Build

→ Mount on forearm, camera unobstructed
→ Horizontal orientation for stability
→ Test: start recording, check framing

Clearance Checklist

✓ Sleeve line sits 2" above wrist bone
✓ Hair tie stretch: 2-3 finger gap max
✓ Mirror rotates freely 180°
✓ Phone camera window fully clear
✓ No snag points on clothing edges
✓ Hands up pose: arms parallel to ground

Critical: Snag Points

Tape all cardboard edges. Round corners with scissors. Cover hair tie knots with tape. Test by running hand over entire assembly - should feel smooth.

Troubleshooting with Pattern Adjustments

Common issues and pattern fixes. Iterate until comfortable.

TOO LOOSE

Fix: Add tape tab to anchor. Double-loop hair tie. Or resize pattern -10%.

ANGLE WRONG

Fix: Adjust wedge fold. Add/remove cardboard shims. Target: see 10ft behind.

CAMERA BLOCKED

Fix: Enlarge window 0.25" each side. Test with phone flashlight through cutout.

MIRROR WOBBLE

Fix: Add backing plate. Hot glue mirror edges to base. Cross-brace with tape.

HAIR TIE SNAP

Fix: Use 2 hair ties per anchor. Pre-stretch before threading. Replace monthly.

SLEEVE SLIPS

Fix: Add rubber band to hair tie for grip. Or tape foam strip inside sleeve.

PRESENCE

Pattern honors real hand sizes. 3" mirror, 3.5" phone slot fits most. Scale adjusts to body.

LEARNING

Cutouts map failure points. Camera window, wedge angle, anchor slots = known issues solved.

SEEPAGE

Print and cut = zero skill barrier. Scissors + tape. No power tools, no glue, no code.

CONFLUENCE

Hands up pose proves system works. If you can hold it, both devices function. Pass/fail = visible.

2. Raise to shoulder height
3. Left palm: see behind you?
4. Right palm: phone recording?
5. Hold 10 seconds comfortably?

If all YES → PASS

System operational. Deploy as needed.
